Space is not a neutral container.

Feng Shui (风水, fēngshuǐ), literally “wind and water”: the two elements that never stop, that permeate everything, and reveal the quality of energy in a place. The practice is not about interior design. It is about Qi (气, ), vital energy, and how it accumulates, flows, or stagnates within a built space.

The same forces that Qigong cultivates within the body, Feng Shui studies in the environment. The body is an internal space. The home is an external space. The principles governing both derive from the same source: Taoism (道家, dàojiā) and its understanding of the continuous alternation between Yin (陰) and Yang (陽). An environment where one quality dominates (too much exposure, too much closure, too much movement or complete stagnation) produces imbalance, just as a body that trains only Yang without Yin counterbalance.

The main analytical tool is the Bāguà (八卦), the eight trigrams. Each trigram represents a natural force and a specific energetic quality: thunder, water, mountain, fire, among others. In Feng Shui, the trigrams are mapped onto a space to identify which areas are associated with specific domains of life (health, relationships, career, resources) and to understand which energies are present, deficient, or excessive.

The application is concrete. It is not about lucky symbols or rituals. It is about reading the orientation of a building in relation to the sun, wind, and water; the internal layout of rooms; the quality of light and air circulation. Every element that influences the flow of Qi through a space is a datum to be read, not ignored.

The effectiveness of Feng Shui depends on the quality of observation, not decoration. An experienced practitioner does not add objects: they read what is already there. Then they intervene with the minimum correction necessary to restore flow.

In the Chinese tradition, Feng Shui, Qigong and traditional medicine belong to the same system of thought. To know the body is to know the space. To know the space is to know the body.
